It’s been quite some time since our last Brief Talk, but we are back! Today we have a very nice interview with football manager and model Phil Bruce. Despite his young age, Phil has already worked with dozens of photographers delivering outstanding work every single time. He feels comfortable with his body and this is something that shows in every work of his we have seen. The images you see below are from his most recent work with one of our favourite photographers, Gavin Harrison. These images are an exclusive to Men and Underwear. Many thanks to Gavin Harrison for the great photos and Phil Bruce for the lovely interview.

Hello Phil. Can you tell our readers a bit about yourself?

Yeah sure, I am a Football Manager for Sporting Khalsa Women F.C Development in the F.A Women’s Premier League, and the Assistant Manager of Leek CSOB Reserves Men’s Team in the Staffordshire County Senior League. I am also the Goalkeeping Coach and Apprentice Tutor at Football Education and Training Academy, and a Tutor and Assessor at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, Stafford College and for Ruby Elite Training. On top of this, I am also a Professional Model and I run my own Soccer School company called The Phil Bruce Soccer School.

How did you get into modelling?

I actually got into modelling through a couple of friends of mine who were photographers (Craig Berry and Simon Moore), we spoke about doing a shoot together, which we did around 4-5 years ago. Then I started networking around the Stoke-on-Trent area with other photographers, created my own Model Mayhem page plus uploaded the pictures onto Facebook, and it just grew from there really.

From what you have done so far, what do you think was your best experience as a model?

That’s a tough question as there have been quite a few really good moments so far, including the opportunities to work with some of the very best photographers in the world such as Andrew Bowman, Gavin Harrison, Graham Martin, Paul de Dona and Simon Barnes, plus featuring in the Vanity Hype UK 2014 Calendar and featuring on blogs and various websites in the UK and internationally. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future brings in the modelling industry, hopefully it will keep on growing.

I am sure it will! Where do you see yourself in 5 years from today? In 5 years time, I would like to see myself married (I have a beautiful girlfriend named Molly Naylor, who means the absolute world to me), and have a home and a family, plus I would like to see myself being as successful in my Modelling, Football Managing, Football Coaching and Teaching Professions, and most important, taking care of my family and friends.

Thank you! Time to talk underwear! What is your favourite style and colour?

Right, okay, underwear… I typically wear various types of sports pants when I’m Managing/Coaching/Training, but when I’m not, in my general everyday life, I traditionally wear boxers as they feel comfier to wear, but for photo shoots I typically wear briefs/underwear as I find that they help to better show my physique and they look better on modelling pictures. Colour-wise, black are universal so go well with pretty much any other types of clothes and backgrounds, and I also like wear white and red boxers/briefs too, basic but effective.

Do you have any brands you prefer over others?
Good question; there are lots of fantastic brands out there, so it is really difficult to pick a favourite one, and as I don’t endorse a particular company or brand yet I typically wear various types, especially for my shoots.

How often do you buy new underwear?
For sports pants, I will buy a new pair when they wear out, which is typically every 9-12 months, and I typically get some more underwear whenever they are required for certain photo shoots so that we can get variation on the pictures that myself and the photographer produce, and hopefully that the audience will like, as that is the main aim of the game.
